  1. Last year, we announced a partnership between Pipeworks and Re-Logic, a studio most famous for creating the wildly popular, creative sandbox game Terraria. That may have been the most important announcement in Pipeworks' history, but today's news might eclipse even that: Impressed by our work on Terraria, Re-Logic has chosen Pipeworks to develop Terraria: Otherworld! "After taking a good hard look at everything, we feel that a new and fresh start/direction is the only way Otherworld will ever reach its full potential at this point," writes Re-Logic's Head of Business Strategy, Ted "Loki" Murphy. "So, where does TOW head from here? The great news is that we already have a dedicated and passionate team ready to pick up the torch and continue the Otherworld journey! Based upon their really impressive work to-date with the Terraria re-write on Console/Mobile, coupled with an amazingly on-point proposal for completing Otherworld (after a thorough review of the game on their end), we have made the decision to bring Pipeworks on board as our new development partner for Terraria: Otherworld!" Meet the Team is a regular feature in which we interview members of the Pipeworks team working on Prominence Poker to give you a brief introduction to the people working behind the scenes to maintain and improve your favorite poker game. Today, our subject is Mike Kruse, Senior Producer. Can you give us your name and title? My name is Mike Kruse and I am a Senior Producer. Been here at Pipeworks for six years now. Where are you from, and how long have you been working in games? I am originally from the Bay Area in California. I started working in games in the early 90’s as a tester at the original Atari Games. Yup, that’s a long-@$$ time ago! I even have credits on some 8-bit console games, so you know I have seen a lot. What have you worked on in the past that people might know? I have worked on a wide variety of games in many different roles, but I will just list projects that I have either worked on in QA or as a Producer: Prominence Poker, World Series of Poker: Full House Pro, The Sims 2 Console, Gauntlet: Dark Legacy, San Francisco Rush: Extreme Racing, Primal Rage, Dr. Muto, and R.B.I. Baseball 4, to name a few. Can you tell us what you do on the Prominence Poker team? My role is to organize and track progress of the team against budget and schedule, and to ensure a timely, high-quality delivery at each milestone – and anything else that needs to get done! I am the administrator, and the interface between everything and the team. Sounds important, right? What makes you passionate about working on Prominence Poker? I have a very talented team. We are doing big things with very few people, and there is a level of passion about this Pipeworks-born game that keeps us motivated. What would you like to tell players about the future of Prominence Poker? I would like to tell them that we have only just begun! There are so many features and directions we can go with this game that the sky is the limit. We want to know what our users want to see!

  5. We’re extremely proud to reveal that Pipeworks is now the developer behind the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the wildly successful creative sandbox known as Terraria! As tremendous, long-time fans of the game, we couldn’t be more excited for this opportunity to work alongside Re-Logic to bring the magic of Terraria to consoles. For now, our main focus is updating the Terraria code base, to ensure that Terraria is running as smoothly as it possibly can for everyone, regardless of which console they prefer.   7. Though it ends tonight at 11PM Pacific, our second SUPERFIGHT closed beta has been a massive success. Players keep telling us how much they’re enjoying the game, and asking when we’re going to hold another beta test. Well, you asked for it, so we’re giving it to you. We’re kicking off a third SUPERFIGHT closed beta, starting on July 1 at 9AM PDT, and ending on July 4 at 11PM PDT. Don’t worry, everyone who has enjoyed SUPERFIGHT during our first two betas will automatically have a spot in the third beta. Fire up the game during the third beta period just as you have been doing, and you're in. If you have yet to try SUPERFIGHT, this third beta is another excellent chance to see why so many streamers are falling in love with our game.   9. If you’re creating a game about cars, you talk to a race driver. If you’re creating a game about the military, you talk to a soldier. And if you’re creating a game about poker, like we are, you consult poker legend Max Pescatori for the kind of insight that a person can only earn by playing cards at the highest level against the world’s best competition for more than a decade. If you’re somehow unfamiliar with the name, Max Pescatori is a longtime poker pro hailing from Milan, Italy. Since he started playing professionally in 2003, Max has racked up 15 titles, four World Series of Poker bracelets, and over $3.7 million in winnings. Needless to say, Max knows a thing or two about playing poker, and his first-hand expertise has been tremendously helpful in refining the pace of our game.   12. Now that you've had some time to dig into the Prominence Poker closed beta test, we're calling you out. We're inviting everyone currently enrolled in the Prominence Poker closed beta to join us on Saturday for a live multiplayer play test. Not only is this a prime opportunity for some top notch multiplayer poker, it's also your chance to let us know what you think of the game so far -- and, if you're lucky, you might walk away with a few thousand of our chips. The play test starts at 12PM Pacific time, and will run for at least a few hours. To find a game, just click 'Play!' on the main menu, select 'Casual Games,' then make sure the next screen looks like the below screenshot. For the best results, set your 'Buy In' to either 100 or 1,000 chips.
  13. Tomorrow, April 1, marks the launch of the highly-anticipated 1.0.85 update for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of Gems of War! Along with the balance tweaks and bug fixes you expect, the patch adds a number of gameplay features from the most recent PC and Mobile versions of Gems of War.   14. Since 2011, Pipeworks has been renting space in a former department store in the heart of downtown Eugene, Oregon. As of last week, however, Pipeworks is entering a whole new era with the purchase of the entire building, tripling our size from 15,000 square feet to a massive 45,000 square feet. Why? To put it simply, we needed more space to create the kinds of games we want to create. From our new focus on developing original intellectual property to a partnership with our sister studio 505 Games and the innovative ventures of Pipeworks Labs, Pipeworks has been growing and evolving so rapidly that we were in danger of outgrowing our current space. By investing in the building we ensure that not only will we have enough room for everyone here in the studio moving forward, but that we also have sufficient space to accommodate the exciting plans we have for the future. We can’t give away anything just yet, but stay tuned. We’ve got a couple of major announcements coming in the next few months that you’re not going to want to miss!
  15. Shortly after its foundation in 1999, Pipeworks Studio earned a reputation as a talented, reliable work-for-hire developer. For 16 years we created some of the industry’s biggest licensed hits, including 2002’s Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee, and 2010’s Deadliest Warrior: The Game. As Oregon’s largest video game developer we are tremendously proud of our achievements to date, but that’s not what we’re here to talk about. We’re here to discuss the new Pipeworks. In late 2014, Pipeworks was acquired by Digital Bros. This marked a massive shift for our studio. For the first time in Pipeworks’ history, we have the freedom to focus primarily on creating games based on our own original concepts. We don’t want to give too much away just yet, but stay tuned over the coming months. We have a few big announcements slated for 2016 that you’re going to want to hear about. Of course, this new focus doesn’t mean we’re abandoning our past success. Beyond video games, Pipeworks has an extensive history as a developer of “serious games,” and we will continue to work with partners like MIT’s Lincoln Labs and the US Navy to create cutting-edge simulation software that saves time, money, and human lives. Equally at home creating party games aimed at streamers, radical AI simulations, or award-winning trainers for the military, our developers, artists, and designers include a talented mix of industry veterans and the brightest young minds, that drive our ideas from concept to completion. Pipeworks' greatest resource has always been its people, and the environment of creativity, passion, expertise, and limitless potential they create is the cornerstone of our success.
